An American Christmas - Dec. 12-26
One of San Diego's favorite traditions! Enjoy a delicious five-course Christmas meal inside Hotel Del Coronado's gorgeous Ballroom. Be transported back 100 years for unforgettable Christmas fun. Your hosts are the Marshall family, who love to entertain new and old friends. Played by a full cast of versatile performers who never miss a beat, the Marshall family welcome their guests and fill the evening with music, dance, song, and laughter. Ticket prices for this lavish holiday feast range from $120-$160.
More than 55 homes in this Chula Vista neighborhood are all lit up for the holidays. Open December 10 - 25, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Christmas Circle is located on Whitney Street and Mankato Street. These two streets form a loop which provides for easy viewing. The area is located between First and Second Avenue off H Street. What Christmas fun and it costs nothing!
December Nights at Balboa Park- Dec. 3-4
Kick off your holiday season with this festive event. Enjoy live entertainment, wonderful food, crafts, and holiday cheer. In the spirit of the holidays Balboa Park museums will open their doors for free from 5-9 PM both evenings. This will be the 33rd year for this fun Christmas event.
Holiday of Lights at the Del Mar Racetrack
You don't want to miss the largest animated drive-through light show on the West Coast. More than 400 twinkling, lively displays located around the Del Mar Racetrack. $14 per car up to 5 people. $19 per vehicle for 6 or more people. They also offer a hayride through the lighted displays, which costs $10 per person and includes a snack. Reservations are recommended for the hayride. Open Nov. 25 - Jan. 2. Closed 3 Mondays: Nov. 29, Dec. 6, and Dec. 13.
Holiday Bowl Parade
Known as America's Largest Balloon Parade, this annual event takes place in downtown San Diego at 10 AM on December 30. Enjoy world-class marching bands, magnificent floats, entertaining drill teams, and a procession of enormous balloons-more than any other parade! After the parade, the fun will continue on the Broadway Pier with games and entertainment at the annual Family Festival. This event is televised so you can watch for home if you want.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
An American favorite, see this Dr. Seuss classic come to life on stage at Balboa Park's Old Globe Theater. Show runs from November 15 through December 28.
Ice Skating Outdoors
Get into the holiday spirit ice skating outdoors. San Diego has three outdoor rinks to choose from for Christmas fun.
(1)There's an ice rink at Horton Square next to Horton Plaza. Cost ranges from $12-14. This rink is open November 18 through January 11.
(2)Overlook the Pacific Ocean as holiday music fills the air at the outdoor rink at the Hotel Del Coronado. The cost is $15-$20 for adults; $10-$15 for children 10 and under. Skate rental is an additional $5.
(3) The Viejas Outlet Center in Alpine offers skating now through January 2, 2011. 90 minute sessions are priced at $12.
Lamb Player's Festival of Christmas - Nov. 30 - Dec. 29
This year's Festival is called “It’s Christmas And It’s Live!” - Set in the early 1950s, this is the story of an eager, young quartet breaking into the new media of television when an unexpected blizzard shuts down New York. Filled with great music of the era and the holiday season, Festival of Christmas will be enjoyed by the entire family.
The Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition that's been performed annually in San Diego since 1995. Enjoy a performance of this classic tale at the Spreckel's Theater in downtown San Diego. Ticket prices range from $29 to $59. Performances held Dec. 10-19 for memorable Christmas fun.
Radio City Christmas Spectacular Starring the Rockettes
The Rockettes are coming to San Diego December 3-5. This truly spectacular show has thrilled audiences for more than 75 years. It's a New York tradition that you can enjoy right here in San Diego for a limited time only. Ticket prices range from $39.50 to $100.
39th Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights Dec. 12th & 19th
The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is an annual event held on San Diego Bay. Boats of all types and sizes are decorated in Christmas themes and lights. Fireworks at 5:30 PM followed by th parade. A good viewing area for boaters is where the parade route turns for Coronado, near the 10th Street Terminal. For those viewing on land, the north and south ends of the Embarcadero as well as the pathway along Coronado are good spots as they tend to be less crowed. Get there early as parking may be an issue if you plan to view the parade from Harbor Island or from the park behind Seaport Village. Don't miss out on this Christmas fun!
