How to Get a San Diego Marriage License

California law requires that both the bride and groom apply together in person for the marriage license. Each of you will need to bring a government issued identification, such as a driver's license or photo ID and a certified copy of your birth certificate. If either of you obtained a divorce within the previous 90 days, you'll need to bring in your divorce decree as well.

Put your license in a safe place until the ceremony, when you will give it to the officiant. The license will be signed by the two of you, the officiant, and your witnesses. The officiant then mails the license to the County Clerk's Office. You will be able to obtain certified copies of your marriage certificate from the county for a fee of $13.
