Mount Soledad

You absolutely do not want to miss Mount Soledad in La Jolla. It's just a short drive up to the top of the mountain where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the area. To the south you can see past San Diego and Coronado all the way to Mexico. Look east and view the mountains; south you see the Pacific Ocean; and north you gaze past the University of California at San Diego, and Torrey Pines.

The view is breathtaking in every direction. The park is open from 7AM until 10 PM and it's one of the best places around to view one of San Diego's spectacular sunsets.

You'll find wide open grass areas, benches, and nature walkways where you can stroll to enjoy the scenery. The Mt. Soledad Vetran's Memorial sits atop Mt. Soledad honoring U.S. Vetrans who have served our country. This memorial is the site of various Vetran ceremonies throughout the year.

It's really a blast to take a bike ride down Mt. Soledad into La Jolla. The Mt. Soledad/La Jolla Bike Tour starts off on Mt. Soledad, with panoramic 360 degree views of San Diego. Enjoy the thrilling descent into Pacific Beach. You will stop at Crystal Pier before cruising down Pacific Beach's Boardwalk, ride through the charming back streets of La Jolla and watch surfers at Windansea's famous surf spot. Ride to the Children's Pool for a close up view of the harbor seals and then on to La Jolla Cove and Clam's Cave. Finally, you will finish off this San Diego bike tour after you enter Sunny Jim's Cave via the historical Cave Store.

From Interstate 5 exit at Grand Avenue/Garnet Avenue. Merge onto Mission Bay Dr. Turn left onto Garnet. Turn right onto Soledad Mountain Dr. Turn right onto La Jolla Scenic Dr. South. Mount Soledad will be on your right.
