North County San Diego Wineries

Julian Wineries| Temecula Wineries

San Diego Wineries are fun to visit on a wine tasting trip. Explore some of the top Southern California wineries: North County San Diego wineries. There are six wineries waiting to be discovered in northern region of San Diego County.

Take advantage of a romantic winery getaway that is not far from San Diego. It's fun to find some unknown wines and new wineries. These uncrowded, friendly tasting rooms offer a unique wine tasting experience.

Bernardo Winery - San Diego

The first stop traveling north on Highway 15 is at Bernardo Winery. This historic Southern California winery opened in 1889. (Exit at Rancho Bernardo Road. Turn left onto Pomerado Road, right onto Paseo Del Verano. The San Diego winery is approximately a mile down this road.) Sample their wines and enjoy the historic exhibits and unique shops.

Orfila Vineyards - Escondido Winery Continue north on Highway 15. Exit at Via Rancho Parkway and follow the signs to San Diego’s Wild Animal Park. Before you reach the park, you will see Orfila Vineyards This is a popular North County San Diego winery with a loyal following. They have fantastic wines and many varietals. They’re known for their superb Syrah, Merlot, and Port.

The next winery is Ferrara Winery. After traveling north on Highway 15, exit at 9th Avenue. Turn right onto 9th Avenue, right onto S. Upas St. and another right onto W. 15th Avenue. This Southern California winery has been designated a California State Historical Point of Interest.

San Diego Vineyard Resume traveling north on Highway 15. Exit at Deer Springs Road. Turn left onto Deer Springs Road and another quick left onto Mesa Rock Road. It's less than a mile down the road. This stop is unique because you will get to visit two Southern California wineries at one location. Belle Marie Winery is a sister winery to Chateau Dragoo. They share the same winery but have different tasting rooms as well as different wines. Chateau Dragoo produces “old world” style of wines, while Belle Marie specializes in “new world” style. You are sure to enjoy the wines and the friendly staff who will be only to happy to tell you all about their wines. My favorite here was Belle Marie Prelude, a sweet red wine made from 100% Grenache. This California winery has lovely landscaping with many colorful flowers. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic visit. Enjoy a stroll around the beautiful grounds.

Get back on Highway 15 and head north to Fallbrook where you will find Fallbrook Winery. Take the Highway 76 exit west toward Oceanside. Turn left onto Pala Road, right onto Gird Road, left onto Via Loma, right onto Old Post Road, turn left to stay on Old Post Road. This road becomes Vista De Palomar, turn right onto Via Rancheros, turn left to stay onto Via Rancheros. (Portions of this road are unpaved.) You need to call in advance for an appointment before visiting (760) 745-7632. This San Diego winery was founded in 1981 specializing in Champagne. They have since added a wide range of both red and white wines to their production.
