Smiling Through

I'd recommend Smiling Through starring Janette MacDonald and Gene Raymond in the 1941 version of this movie. The adopted daughter of a wealthy landowner falls in love with a soldier. Unknown from the family is the knowledge that this soldier's father had taken the life of the landowner's bride. This movie is a real tearjerker and very romantic.
